This Wednesday night I was invited to attend Project: Design! as part of St. Louis Fashion Week. Held downtown at Windows on Washington, this event featured six designers competing in an emerging design contest. Up for grabs was a grand prize of around $30,000 plus resources to further their career and a cash prize of $2,500! Yowza! Let me tell you, I had a HANTASTIC time! The best part about this show was the absolute beauty in the clothing design. Watching the models come out in innovative styles and gorgeous fabrics was like seeing artwork come to life. I didn’t want it to end! The judges had their work cut out for them having to choose between such talented men and women. Here’s a recap of who/what/where:

We began with some looks from 2012 Project: Design! People’s Choice Winners- Lauren Bander & Elise Lammert
First Designer: Abaya Dake- Originally from Ghana, Africa Dake was a crowd favorite with his neon tribal prints
Second Designer: Black by Maria Silver- Residing in Nashville, TN Silver started her career in New York designing for Broadway
Third Designer: Fouche- This edgy collection is by Midwest based designer Nicole Fouche.
Fourth Designer: Miita- New York based Angela Brugioni used dramatic and unexpected elements to wow the judges
Fifth Designer: Spansen Filles- Co-Designed by Sabrina Spanta & Chenelle Bertelsen featured beautiful knitwear
Sixth Designer: Q Liu- My favorite of the night! This St. Louis based designer uses a felting process to create truly wearable masterpieces. The birds you see in her designs are literally a part of the fabric, not painted on. Amazing!
