A big look for eyes this spring is liquid liner. Wait! Don’t run away! I know the words “liquid liner” strike fear into the hearts of many women. Like Mr. M when he hears me say, “Clearance Sale!” Yet you have to agree that the look is fabulous! Defined, flawless eyes in a smudge proof black are scattered across fashion magazines everywhere. “But Hannah, what if I can’t use liquid liner?” you might be saying. Well friends, you’re in luck! Several beauty lines have released new tools to help you conquer this simple make up technique. Being a huge fan of the liner look myself, I decided to test 3 of them to see if they live up to the hype. My goal was to find the simplest gadget that won’t make your eyes look like they’ve been doodled on by my six year old. Armed with a stack of cotton squares and a bottle of make up remover, I got to work:
1. Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink $23.00
LOVE this product! I have worn Bobbi Brown for years and consider her stuff to be among the best out there. This eye liner comes in a little glass pot, with one drawback being you have to also purchase an eyeliner brush to apply it. Bobbi Brown sells the brushes for $26.00, but I picked up a great one by Sonia Kashuk at Target for $5.99.
This technique does take a little practice. You are basically painting a thin line on your lid with the brush, like this:
The result? A perfect line that lasts all day! This eyeliner gets 4 stars!
2. Too Faced 3 Way Lash Lining Tool $22.00
I was really excited to try this product after reading about it, but the results were not what I hoped. Marketed as a 3-in-one tool. this pen claims to line eyes and emphasize lashes. That is if you can figure it out. It looks really cool though:
The 3 tips make it seem easy to use, but even after following the enclosed directions, I wasn’t happy with the results. This would definitely be difficult for a first time user:
The line was hard to draw and the multiple tips left a space between my lashes and the line:
Yeah, not so much with the 3 way tool! I gave this one 2 stars.
3. NYX The Curve Felt Tip Eyeliner in Jet Black $14.99
Although this pen is the most intimidating appearance wise, it was surprisingly simple to use!
It looks awesome out of the box! This ergonomically designed tool touts itself as being user friendly, even for beginners.
The Curve is amazingly effortless to use! It fit right in my hand, with the super thin tip positioned perfectly. I was able to create a precise line and even flipped up the end for a cat eye effect:
Definitely a good choice for eyeliner newbies, it would be hard to mess up with this gadget. I gave it 4 stars!
There you have it class! Thanks for coming to Eyeliner 101, now get out there and work the catwalk you sexy things!
